What is a String Quartet?
A string quartet is an ensemble of four instruments: two violins, one viola and a cello. Composers such as Beethoven and Mozart have been writing music for this combination of instruments for over 200 years!
What other ensembles do you have?
We provide solo violin, duets, trios or the traditional quartet. We also offer a violin and flute duo.
How will string instruments enhance my wedding celebration?
The sound of string instruments is smooth, romantic and elegant. Whether the event is an intimate beach wedding or a formal church affair, music creates an elegant atmosphere that will be remembered long after the wedding celebration is over!
What special songs do I need for my wedding?
Sonata Strings provide prelude music as the guests are gathering. This music is reflective to set the tone for the ceremony.
Special songs will indicate the beginning of the wedding ceremony as parents and family members are seated.
The bridal party is serenaded with their own unique music as they make their way to the alter.
The bride has her own special song as she walks down the aisle.
Music can be provided during the ceremony for the lighting of a unity candle, a sand ceremony, during scripture, poetry reading or as a solo.
Joyful music will announce the bride and groom! And music will continue for the dismissal of the wedding party and guests.
How do I select the music? (Especially if I don't know much about music?)
We are happy to help you in the selection process. You may meet with us prior to the wedding for a consultation, call us for a phone consultation or correspond by email. Or, if you wish we will use our expertise to guide you with your selections.
Do I need a deposit to secure your services?
Yes, we require a $50.00 deposit within two weeks of requesting our services.
When does the balance have to be paid?
The balance is to be paid by check two weeks before the wedding date.
If I want to use Sonata Strings for my ceremony, what can I expect?
We will begin playing as your guests arrive, usually 20-30 minutes prior to the ceremony. We provide the music for the seating of the family, the attendants, the bridal music, any music needed during the ceremony, the recessional and the dismissal of guests. This usually consists of one hour.
How will you be dressed?
For beach weddings we can wear all black, black/white or tan/white. For formal church weddings we wear black.
What do the musicians require from the bride and groom?
We need one chair for each musician hired.
Do you play outdoors?
Yes, as long as conditions will allow us to play safely. Sting instruments are fragile and cannot be played in the rain.
What do you charge?
The price for solo violin is $200.00. The cost for additional instruments will be determined by the ensemble chosen. There may be an additional $50.00-$75.00 travel charge for weddings more then 20 miles from the Fort Walton area.
Will you attend the wedding rehearsal?
No, we do not attend the rehearsal. All of our planning is completed with you before the rehearsal. We have years of experience performing at weddings so there is no need for us to attend the rehearsal.
Can you accompany a vocalist or another solo instrument?
This will require extra rehearsals, and will be evaluated on an individual basis. There may be an additional cost for an extra rehearsal.
What is your cancellation policy?
Your $50.00 deposit is non-refundable. If you cancel within one month of the wedding date you are responsible for the entire balance.
Do you always use the same musicians?
Leanne, our principle violinist, attends every wedding that is booked by Sonata Strings. Our trio is a family trio which consists of Leanne on violin and her sons on violin and viola. We have a professional cellist who joins us to complete our quartet. Our personnel may change depending on the availability of our musicians.
Can you play a special song that is not in your repertoire?
Yes, we can either find an arrangement of your special song or write one ourselves. Please give us two months notice as some songs are hard to find! If we have to "special order" your song you will be responsible for the cost of the music purchase. We always do our best to supply your special requests, unfortunately sometimes we cannot. In this case, we will find a suitable substitute for your consideration.
Do you have a contract?
Yes, upon receiving your deposit a contract will be emailed or mailed to you.
